|
|
I have removed the 4 holding bolts but the cover wont come off. It's probably never been taken off in it's life so that's 20+yrs now.
I have disconnected the few rubber hoses but they weren't actually holding it down.
I can feel a foam like material underneath around the edges. Could this be semi melted to the engine top and so holding it down?
Any suggestions well received. I don't want to force it. |

It's a *beep* of a job to get it off, only done it the once and took me ages, so get a hot air gun and warm it with that, but keep constant pressure on the panel, and try not to force it too much. _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser

Thanks Andy. I missed your post, as was out levering it up. Came away ok in the end and as i suspected, some of the insulation had stuck fast to the rocker cover.
So lesson learned, just the 4 bolts holding the R/C on.
One other thing ...... the outflow side of the EGR is seriously sooted up, like about 5 mm thick. I can get that apart and clean it all off. But the manifold it attaches to is impossible to clean without removal. And that means disconnecting a ton of stuff including the fuel pipes.
Does this "reduction" in the overall size of the inlet manifold make much difference to performance? If not i think i will leave well alone. As alwasy, one small job leads to another, if i'm not careful i'll have the whole bl**dy car in bits. |

I didn't remove manifold either, and as you say the EGR is easy to clean, did read that the manifold can be taken off, but is bit of a job to do, so in the end I blocked the EGR and gave it a good blast up the motorway. _________________ It's Not a Bl**dy Jeep it's a Landcruiser
