Good to have your perspective based on experience.  As I said, I'll probably do the same as you suggest and use rubber piping.

Agree too about the design fault, as the unprotected pipes are woefully exposed to the elements, salt, gravel etc alongside the chassis rail. It's a stupid place to run them. I'm really glad the leak was spotted at MoT time, otherwise it would likely have been catastrophic, as I had a 6 hour towing job lined up for it.

As I said before, the fact that the 90 series is no longer supported by the manufacturer is concerning me, so much so that I'm considering, for the first time, if I should now be thinking about moving the vehicle on. As it is, I'm having to spend more and more time on preventative maintenance, which I was happy to do up to now before I learnt about the parts situation.
