Just had the C/Head done in my LX 2L-T SWB Land Cruiser as mine was cracked and boiling the water out through the expansion tank. Since then I have had terrible problems starting her from cold.
I have also fitted a non-return valve to the fuel line as I thought the fuel was running back to the tank but no thats not the problem.
I have checked the glows and they are all fine.
Be grateful if someone has any thoughts. |

Can not understand this someone must have had this problem especially as the head is a common problem with these motors. Or have I the only bad starter in the country? |

How have you tested the glow plugs?
Have you tried to loosen one of the diesel tubes to the injector? If diesel supply is OK a spray of diesel will be visible when starting.
Is the engine running OK after starting? _________________ Roger Fosland

I tested them according to the Toyota Maintenance manual using a test meter. The mechanic also told me he flashed them on a battery prior to fitting. I have also tested all the electrics according to the manual and all check out. I have not tested the injectors as they have not changed or been removed from the engine only the head whas switched after having it scimmed and pressure tested. |

Sorry I meant to say the injectors have only been transferred from one head to the replacement head they have not been tested as I did not see the need as they were fine before. |

Fixed it.
It would seem that the imports have 6v glows so there must be a voltage regulator somewhere in the system to step the voltage down from 12. My regulator has popped and in turn fed the glows with 12v blowing them as well. I could not find the regulator but I did discover that when the switching relay 'clicked' in that it imediatly disconnected again. So what I did was replace the now burnt out glows with 12 volt ones and hot wired the relay bypassing the timer and the regulator in the system.
She burst into life after a 5 sec heat...........result. So I wired a 20amp self centering switch to my dash and manually heat before starting. Maybe not the ideal solution but it works for me. I am going to redo some of the loom as the shorted regulator has burnt some of the wiring. |
