Hi Guys

New to the forum so firstly hi

Have an old FJ70 landcruiser with starship mileage that I use as my daily commuter and an off roader . Recently it has started overheating . Will be fine for a while but then the temp creeps up . If i put the heater on when driving around town the temp will drop and sit in the middle but if i'm on the motorway it will continue to climb even with the fan on

I have replaced the thermostat but this hasnt fixed it .

Is it likely to be waterpump, fan or headgasket

First thing is to replace the radiator cap so you know it can build pressure.

If it overheats while stopped its usually the fan clutch.

If it overheats on the freeway it is usually a blocked radiator.
The best fix is a new radiator. The next best thing is to have the top and bottom tank removed and a thin rod pushed through the core to get all the gunk out .

To test for a blocked radiator,go for a drive and warm it up.

Spray a fine mist of water from a spray bottle onto the radiator. If it has areas where it dries noticeably slower than others then it has cool spots and thats where the blockages are.

Another thing is Ive found with 3F engines is that when they have high miles they tend to run hotter, possibly from wear in the cyl/piston.
