Trip to the Lake District yesterday; intended on walking from Brotherswater, but Kirkstone Pass was too snowed up; managed a few miles along the pass, but had to give up, it was taking too long.
Any body ever passed through the full length of the pass when snowed up with 4' high snow banks each side?
We passed 6 or 7 abandoned looking family hatchbacks; fools. Landcruiser was totally awesome, but we were supposed to be walking, not off roading for the day.
Think my rear HT tyres skittering was way too off putting. Front AT tyres were great though; never skittered once!
We changed the plan to walk 3/5 off the Newlands Horseshoe. We made it down the snowy steep uncleared road to Little Town lower car park:
Only car in the car park!; no further tyre tracks when we got back. Guess you need a good, proper 4X4 for this job.
Once walk over, 5 hours later & in total darkness, my two walking pals were awe struck when the truck dragged herself up the snow & ice covered bleeding steep road easily; she didn't even require difflocks, just a steady control of throttle and first gear was all that was needed. Rear tyres skittered a little bit, but the fronts held firm. Set of AT tyres for the rear when these HT have worn down.
We were talking about the trucks performance on a snowed up Kirkstone Pass and down/ up the Little Town road. The boys were amazed. These Landcruisers truly are unstoppable! _________________ Regards, Chris.
