hi,
i'm so new to landcruiser ownership that i don't actually have one yet!!!
to help you understand me a little better;
i currently own a landrover 110 station wagon and have used it for camping trips to iceland, norway, the west coast of scotland and more weekend's under canvas (ok, nylon) than i can remember all year round. i have a wife and two boys aged 4 and 6 plus an elderly german shepherd.
the 110 has its advantages, namely (solely) its load carrying capacity. we managed food for 3 weeks in norway plus everything except fuel and water.
however its UNcomfortable, UNeconomical, slow, noisy,leaks..... well you get the idea.
i went of to a local (50miles away) 4x4 dealer had a look at a R plate colorado, took it for a drive and WOW!. i once read that the cure for landrover was a landcruiser, i know know what they mean. the 3ltr auto was amazing.
however, this is where my knowledge ends.
could someone help me with some of the following;
diferent model specs/names.
4WD system, centre diff? rear diff? the one i drove had a turn switch on the dash for a diff.
how do you engage low ratio? 4LLC?
anything i should look for when buying? wear points? rust problems?
how high a mileage is too high? this one had 111,000miles.
although its a second vehicle it goes remote and needs to be reliable.
please help with any pointers and suggestions.
thanks. |

I drive a 110 for work and have a LC 90 R plate Colorado Auto as my own off roader and they are worlds apart as you have found out.
My Colorado does around 25 mpg in mixed driving, 20 gallon tank as standard.
It is permanant 4WD with a centre diff lock (same as the 110) mine also has a rear diff lock, sounds the same as the one you are looking at.
Low ratio and centre diff lock is via a second gear knob. (same as the 110)
Cam belt change is very easy (Main dealer including the belt is less than £130) should be done at 60K or three years as far as I know.
There are a few reports of cracked heads and leaking rads between the water and the auto fluid cooler, but these seem to be rare and that's it.
Suspension is easy to work on as well.
Look for proof of full service history really.
I love mine |
