|
|
Spurred by a thread in the 80-series bit, who would be interested in a days recovery and winch training?
Not to run it myself as i'm only LANTRA qualified, but know 2 highly qualified and respected instructors both who are LANTRA and BORDA qualified.
Maybe to cover (and this is only my thoughts):
Recovery planning- where, how, who, signals, control, calculations of drag, how to ensure safety and areas of concern.
Static v Dynamic recoveries- when to use a snatch etc
Hi-lift- Basic safe use, use as a winch, use as a cast, etc etc
Rigging- Double and triple line pulls, tree rigs, ground anchors (pin and shovel), spreading load on vehicles
Hand Winches- Proper use of a tirfor (how to setup), winch in and out.
Powered self-recovery Winches- Use of, Safety (winch blankets etc), maintenance, string management, power management (either electric or hydraulic)
No idea on costs but not a huge amount i would have thought- hopefully somewhere reasonablly accessible to anyone involved.
Could probably arrange for most of the kit to be supplied if you don't have your own.
Any interest? |

To add:
This would be aimed at both newcomes to recovery and those with experience- it will also be of interest to those who use winches alot but have never had formal training. |

I'd be very interested in this - I have none of the kit beyond shackles and straps though but I'm very keen to learn all about this "art"!
Beyond digging, pulling with brute force and inept use of a hi-lift, I have no experience in this area

I'm keen too. Would this be a formal bit of training, leading to a qualification, or simply some training to stop us killing ourselves, and each other
Where, and what sort of cost? _________________ I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

Actually, I reckon a section on ground anchors would be useful too.

Yep - how to make sure the ground anchor table is level.
Or did you mean towing an off-road trailer through a desert?

Smart @rse!
Remembering to take the anchor with you would be a start actually.

at the moment this would be entirely informal training- it would NOT lead to LANTRA or BORDA qualifications but would be based on their training.
I figured the idea would be to have an entirely hands on session, so learning stuff that will be helfpful for the sort of offroading we do (expeditions, green laning, possibly competitive use) etc etc rather than the priority being risk assessments etc (safety will obvious be critical, but i'm sure you all know what i mean).
Groundanchors would definitely be covered- Pins, Spades, improvisation etc.
No idea on cost yet, depends on whether we have to rent land or not, and whether my club insurance can cover the event! Also depends on cost of instructor
I would hope it would be around the £30/person for the day, is this a reasonably figure? it does depend on the uptake though! |
