Just received an e-mail from the BOAB folk on this - there is at least one space available on each of the two trips - so if anyone else wants to join in on the one we're booked on, now's the time to put pennies to paper and join in! Should be a blast ... _________________ I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

We are going the week before.
One Land Cruiser and two 110's for winching practice
Astrix 2010
Chris @ Boab is not to forthcoming with information. We did ask him where the RV point was so we may book Hotel / Campsite the night before we start.
All we got was try around two towns one a hour from the RV and another 30mins from the RV.
More information will be supplied in the new year he says.
Trip Metre.
I was fitting my sender to the auto gear box yesterday and found there was one on there already. I think it is the speed sensor for the Auto box or the cruise control.
We fitted the new
It seems to fit on the back of the existing speed sensor with no bother.
Not got the Brantz tripmeter as of yet but think we are all going to use the Brantz International 2 S Pro.
Anyone else fitted a sensor yet ?

There are at least 3 Brantz units on flea-bay right now - search for 'rally tripmeter' _________________ I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

I have them on my watch list but others have gone for not much less than they are from Don Barrow new.
At least I will get a warranty with a new one and as we are going to buy three we will try for a bit of a deal. !!!!!
Thanks for letting me know any way.

I hadn't thought to look for them on flee-bay but if they're not significantly cheaper than new / Don Barrow I would just get new like SilverCruiser says. I should be getting a delivery of bits from RS today so I can make a start on modifying my speedo corrector circuit / software to include a trip meter when the weather keeps me indoors now It would still be cheaper to just buy one but where's the fun in that _________________ Jon m0zxj

I've just been flooded with mails from BOAB re ferry bookings.....
Has anyone given any thought to getting across there in May - are you wanting to get a ferry, or the train, or what?
And thoughts on when you want to leave, and route etc.? I've not driven through Europe before, so while we could manage happily, driving in a group will probably be more fun. We were thinking of leaving on 27th May - 1 day down to the ferries / tunnel, one day to the RV point, to arrive evening of 28th May. Is that reasonable?
I thought it might be fun to hook up this side of the channel and travel together - if anyone is interested let me know. I'm open to crossing methods, but the train does seem to be fastest and easiest and less susceptible to weather - ahem
I'll probably want to book reasonably soon to take advantage of the specials - any thoughts on a group plan welcomed.

Re; I've just been flooded with mails from BOAB re ferry bookings.....
Just added more confusion to the pot I think. I binned the lot.
We are on the week before you and have booked a ferry from PORTSMOUTH TO CAEN overnight with a cabin. Arrive in France next Morning all refreshed. (With a bad head.)
Cost for the return trip was £390.00. Take out the cost of hotel for the night and wont be far off Chunnel cost of £200.
We are going to Caen as we are going to friends for a few days first then down to the UNKNOWN R.V. point.
We were looking for a hotel near the RV point for the Saturday night but only been told that a town called Issoire is about 1 hour away !!!!!!.
I think the French Resistance may know more about it than us maybe we should contact the Special Operations Executive for more details.

my 5p worth: Use the tunnel. I got a ticket for £1 less than the the ferry (£89 return on the train).
The ferry, from Dover, was like the easyjet of travel. The train, was like the inside of my LC. Comfy, quite and quick. 30 minutes end to end.
I only got the ferry return because of the wrong type of fluffy snow that broke the train. _________________ Cheers,

I was planning to travel down to Portsmouth on the afternoon / evening of the 28th, hop on the overnight ferry, spend the 29th traveling down to near the RV point and find a camp site there. I'd be happy to travel in convoy but the dates we've chosen are school holidays, the roads will be extremely busy and I don't much fancy trying to get round the M25 and down to Dover plus find somewhere for a decent nights sleep. _________________ Jon m0zxj

That's probably a better routing for us too - Portsmouth is prety straightforward to get to. Will chat to SWMBO and let you know the executive decision. We may stay over the night of the 27th somewhere - SWMBO quite likes the look of that fairy princess castle hotel near Lincomb _________________ I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

I was looking at for example getting the 22:45 Brittany Ferries sailing on the 28th which gives me an easy journey down to Portsmouth and then a good long day down through France having had a kip on the boat. Coming back, I was thinking of the maybe the 16:30 Brittany Ferries sailing on the 6th (sunday) so I'd go part way back up through France on the Saturday afternoon, find somewhere to camp and complete the journey on the Sunday, not bother with a cabin for the return ferry cos I'll have slept already and then an easy drive back home sunday night. It's a lot more expensive than the dover option but as far as I'm concerned the holiday starts as soon as the car moves off the drive and doesn't finish till it's back on it so I want to enjoy the journeys rather than making them as quick and cheap as possible _________________ Jon m0zxj

If we find a campsite near the RV we will let you know what its like and where it is, but most frenchie campsites are very good.
Once we find out where it is.
Sounds like you are doing the same as us Ferry wise.
Yours should be cheaper as we a towing a trailer with a balloon and the bits
