Just got a 70 1988 2.4TD. Will hopefully get it on the road soon, needs a bit of tidying but im pretty happy with it any advise would be great. Have uploaded pics to photobucket but im not aloud to post them yet though as im a new member as soon as i can i will, any one know when i will be able to? Mine come with the manual free wheeling hubs which im chuffed about as it seems a lot of you have trouble with the electric versions. So like i said any advise great and il get the pics up when i can.

Not so!

more info on posting weblinks <-- Click to read

It doesn't take many posts, nor is the length of membership required all that long - both single figures, neither very high - as it says - it's one of a handful of anti-spam measures ... stick with it, it's worth it!

Look forward to seeing the pics soon!

Still cant post images but heres an update.

Things needed for the mot are:

*Rear exhaust section, managed to get one off e bay for £35 delivered chuffed with that.

*Front exhaust section, only price i got for this so far is ~£90 although still waiting on prices from some places. Will see if i can get whats on there repaired as looks like it could be welded. Any ideas wheres good for exhausts and rough price?

*May need a tyre, as one on there has a little cracking although other 3 are all good. Spares knackerd, will have to see if some tyres turn up on e bay cheap.

*Thats all i know for now should be having it checked over before mot some time this week. Fingers crossed everything else will be ok.

Other issues:

*The only key i have is on the verge of snapping so before doing anything i have to get some cut which i will hopefully get done tomorow.

*Headlining is completely cack hanging down everywhere, whats the best way of sorting this?

*Sun roof doesnt work although im not to bothered about this, is it an easy/cheap fix?

*Its low on oil and seeing whats in it looks pretty cack im gonna give it an oil change, will check the other filters and may changed them to. How much oil does the 2.4 take?

*Thats all i can recall at the mo, other than could do with a clean on the inside. Was nice of the old owner to leave half a pack of biscuts in the landcruiser, although seeing tax ran out more than 4   months ago think il give them a miss haha.

Looking forward to getting it on the road, and thanks in advance for any replys.

Oh another fault is that only the smaller speakers are working. Not the larger ones, is this a common fault with an easy fix by any chance? Although it does have a non standerd stero in there so maybe its been wired up wrong will have to look in to it.

Looks pretty tidy.  Nice truck, worth getting sorted out.  As far as the headlining goes mine's quite similar, but it usually tightens up in the summer!  Dunno why.  I've heard all sorts of ideas for sorting this, but the only bloke with any real knowledge of it said you have to strip out the lining and the moulded insulaton behind it and re-glue with a specialist adhesive.

Are you sure the sunroof's not just the fuse?

Try googling Milner Off Road, they're pretty cheap.

A smidge under 6 litres including the filter, Milners have half decent kits to use which are very cheap.

Jim.

Yeah, deffo Milners for exhausts. 1/3rd price of Mr T, and good quality. get all brackets, o rings and gaskets there too -  problems if you have long w/base 78 like me though, some extending, bending and cut and shut skills required - more than they lead you to believe, but still cheap at the price.

Hi, thanks for all the replys. Guy who had a look over it before mot seems to think the only problems will be the exhaust which i have already got the back bit for and hes going to weld the front pipe so thats sorted. He mentioned that theres a lot of cack around the swivels at the end of the axels and this needs to be cleaned up before the mot. Im hoping thats just grease thats leaked out the swivels and a clean up will be enough to get it through the mot, which will hopefully be next week. While im cleaning up the swivels will give the engine an oil change seeing il be under it and all being well will be on the road late next week  Very Happy

Hi, dont think its the fuse as there is a noise when you press the switch will look in to it.

Thanks again Phil

Hi Phil

Whereabouts in Ciderland are you?

Seems there is a little cluster of us from J24 to J27.

Looks like BF Goodrich ATs - excellent tyre, what size are they? Plenty of 2nd hand spare tyres around as moving up to 31" tyres plus is a fairly standard mod.

Consider changing the anti-freeze as well , get the toyota stuff, as care of the head is essential.

Manual hubs, thats good.

Front swivel seals knacked by the look of it, very common, messy job fixing but probably worth it, something I'm putting off!

Cheers

Pete

Whilst you are at it, junk those nasty rusty trim pieces that cover the manual locking hubs.

All they do is keep in the mud and go rusty.
